Great News from FoP for the New Year!

Excellent Pathway News Submitted by Friend’s of Pathways:
Today the Teton County Commissioners awarded the final major contract for the North 89 Pathway for the Gros Ventre Pathway Bridge installation. The contract went to low bidder Westwood Curtis Construction for $454,892. The County has previously awarded two other contracts to build the 6.1 mile pathway from the Town of Jackson to the Gros Ventre River, plus a separate contract to purchase the steel bridge parts.

Teton County Commissioner Andy Schwartz remarked on the major significance of this project. He said this contract will complete the County’s portion of a world-class pathway system that will safely connect the Town of Jackson to Jenny Lake by Fall 2011. The County project connects directly with the next Grand Teton Pathway section from the Gros Ventre to Moose also planned for 2011.

The estimated total cost of the 6.1 mile pathway, a highway underpass to the National Museum of Wildlife Art, plus the Gros Ventre Pathway Bridge is approximately $4.7 million. The County and Pathways staff have done an outstanding job in managing the project design and costs to date. The quality is excellent and the project has come in under budget. The funding is paid primarily with $4 million federal grants plus $850,000 in SPET funding approved by Teton County voters this past August.

Friends of Pathways has played a vital role throughout the project – starting with encouraging the Town to provide initial design funds from a Scenic Byway federal grant, then helping the County prepare and lobby for two successful federal grants, and successfully advocating for a federal Stimulus grant from WYDOT.

Congratulations and thanks for the North 89 Pathway and Gros Ventre Pathway Bridge can be sent to:

See you at the Ribbon Cutting in 2011!
