Fresh Snow for Fat Bike Summit Race Day

I’ve spent the last week getting ready for the Fat Bike Summit in Island Park.   That means writing lists of things we need to bring, coordinating with caterers, checking the registrant list, meeting with Jay P and Fitzy.   Well, yesterday I loaded the car and headed north to the Sawtelle Resort in Island Park. I got there in time to pick up lunch and make sure we go extra lunches for all the extra people and get set up.   The Summit day of the weekend was a big success:  15 more folks than we expected, a warm reception to the idea of fat biking and great take aways for both land managers and advocates alike. Jay Petervary shares his thoughts on the 2nd Annual Winter Fat Bike Summit & Festival:

If you have been living in a closet, haven’t had much connection with the shop, or have taken a lot of LSD, you might not know this but the category of Fat Bikes is growing and growing rapidly!  The Fat Bike is basically a mountain bike modified to accept up to 4.7 inch wide tires (they seem to keep growing) which presents the ability to ride in places that a standard mountain bike could not.  Riding Fat Bikes on sand, snow, tundra, coastal areas, and chunky rock is all very doable and so much fun.  With the birth and drive of the Fat Bike being able to be ridden on snow packed trails such as snow machine trails and nordic centers we are now another user group to these trails. Some demographics like ours here surrounding the Tetons has thousands of these miles. (more…)

Teton Valley Favorites:

Grand Targhee Resort: Yup, you can ride on sweet groomed nordic track at a resort!  Just head up to Grand Targhee Resort.

  • 15 kilometers of perfectly groomed nordic trails over hills and swooping corners on multiple loop options
  • $10 per day for a ticket or $120 for nordic season pass
  • Facilities:  Restrooms, Restaurant & Bar, Outdoor Shop & Rentals
